| Title: | Works Cited |
| Summary: | Samples and guidelines for creating a Works Cited (grades 8-12) |
| Description: | In 8th grade, students learn about the Works Cited page and how it is different from a Works Consulted page. When you quote or paraphrase someone else's original ideas, MLA (Modern Language Association) format requires that you "cite" the information--that is, add a parenthetical citation close to the quote or paraphrase that identifies information about its source. This "citation" gives only a small amount of information (usually the author's last name and the page number). The complete information about the sources goes in the Works Cited page--a list of all the sources you "cited" in the body of the paper that is written in MLA format. Unlike the Works Consulted, which lists all the resources you consulted in your research, the Works Cited only contains the resources you quoted or paraphrased from. |
