    B. My parents were John Marshall Clemens, an attorney, and Jane Lampton Clemens.

    C. My father died when I was a boy, so my brother and I had to earn the living

    for the family.

     
    D. I lived and is Samuel Langhorne Clemens.

    II. Careers of Mark Twain

     
    A. I worked as a printer’s apprentice and typesetter in Hannibal. MO fron 1847-1850.
    B. I worked for the local newspaper the Hannibal Journal from 1850-1852.
    C. From 1857-1859, I was an apprentice on a riverboat learning to be a pilot.
    D. I served as an actual riverboat pilot from 1859-1860 when the War Between the States shut down riverboat traffic on the Mississippi.
    E. From 1860-1862, I worked for the government in the new state of Nevada and spent one year as a gold miner.
    F. I worked as a reporter for the Territorial Enterprise in Virginia City, Nevada, sometimes using the pseudonym Mark Twain from 1862-1864.
    G. Shortly after this, I wrote the short story, “The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County which started my career as a novelist and short story writer.
