FAQ for USING DOCUSHARE

1. How do I get to Docushare?
§ If you are connecting from school, you can click on the Red X on your desktop and you will be taken to X erox Docushare. If you are connecting from home, go to:

http://doc.mariemontschools.org

§ Once you are connected to Docushare, just click on CONTENTS at the top of the homepage, to get a complete listing of what is available to the general public.

Much of what was password protected in the past is now available to any user who

knows the url of Docushare.

2. How do I get to the password-protected section of Docushare?
§ After reaching the Docushare homepage, click on LOGIN at the top of the page

enter your login (teacher) and password (ask your library staff member, if you have forgotten what it is) to enter the password-protected section. In most cases, you will not need to go to this section.

3. How do I get to the Teacher Toolbox?

§ There are several ways to get to the Teacher Toolbox.

§ The Teacher Toolbox is linked from each library web page (see yellow frame on the left of the library homepage).
§ You can also go to Docushare and scroll through the CONTENTS to the heading: Teacher Toolbox.
§ The direct link to Teacher Toolbox is:

http://doc.mariemontschools.org/dscgi/ds.py/View/Collection-116

4. Is there a way to find a specific topic or subject heading in the Teacher Toolbox without wading through the hierarchy of subject headings?
§ Enter your search in the box at the bottom of the Docushare homepage under the heading SEARCH DOCUSHARE ( NEW ). If searching for an exact phrase such as “Understanding by Design” at the homepage, click on “This phrase” instead of searching by “All of these words” or “Any of these words”.

§ If you are already in the CONTENTS of Docushare go to the top of the page and click on SEARCH . A rather complex looking search form will pop up. The easiest way to search is to go to the first little box next to the word “contains”. Type your search term / keyword(s) in the box. Be sure to put quotes around any exact phrase.
§ Or, if you prefer, click on XEROX DOCUSHARE at the top of the page. You will go back to the homepage and can scroll to the less intimidating SEARCH box at the bottom of the homepage.

§ SEARCH EXAMPLES:

o “essential questions” (looking for help with a specific concept)
o “grand adventure” (looking for a specific project)
o “how things work” (looking for a specific web site)
o cinergy (don’t try a general topic like this – too many hits)
o “grant wiggins” (looking for information about a particular person)

5 . Are there any other guidelines that will help with searching?
§ Keep in mind that in searching, Docushare is not case specific (can be all lower

case or a mix of cases).

§ Be careful to remember what section you are in when you search. If you are in

the section called “Forms, guidelines, etc.” your search will only look in that

section . For example, if you are on the homepage, all of Docushare will be searched. If you are in the Teacher Toolbox, only the toolbox will be searched.

§ Keep exact phrases in quotes (except when searching from the Homepage).
§ If you get a lot of hits, but were looking for a section, look for the yellow folder

that designates the main topic area. For instance, if you search for “essential questions’, you will get several hits … look for the yellow folder

and you will go to the main section about “essential questions”.

6 . How do I get back to where I was in the beginning or to the previous topic?
§ At the top of the Docushare page (not Internet Explorer) you will see the heading “Appears In”. Click on the topic listed there and continue to do that until you work

your way back to the main contents section or get back to where you want to be.

§ You can always go to the top of the page you are on and click on Xerox Docushare

at the top to go back to the homepage.
