CINERGY

What is CINERGY BASICS?

In the Spring of the year 2000, Mariemont City School District was awarded a grant by the CINERGY Foundation. The grant is based on the idea that the school district is building a collaborative community of lifelong learners to include students, educators, parents, and citizens. Much of the funding is designated for professional development designed to assist teachers in meeting the challenges presented by a changing society. Skills emphasized include technology integration, information literacy skills, higher-level thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Lifelong learning is the linchpin that supports meeting these challenges.

What are the mission and vision of the CINERGY initiative?

  Vision

As stated in the original application, MCSD and the communities served by the district envision the development of a collaborative community of lifelong learners that recognize, critically evaluate and respond to changes in society that constantly alter the world in which they live and learn. Development of these skills in students requires a community of educators, parents, and citizens who not only value these skills, but also can effectively model them. Students must understand that learning is truly "without walls," not limited to the time spent in formal education, and a continuing process of life.

Mission

By all standard measures, MCSD provides an excellent preparation in basic skills. State proficiency tests, nationally normed tests (ERB), the Ohio Educational Report Card, and National Exemplary School Awards place MCSD among an elite group of exemplary educational institutions. The changing world, however, demands that the district go beyond these measures of excellence and develop skills that have not traditionally been mastered by schools in the U.S. These skills include higher-level thinking, problem solving, and collaboration. These skills are building blocks for success in a world of "anytime, anywhere" learning. Through a combination of rich staff development, engagement of community resources and fine-tuning of an award-winning curriculum, the district will raise the bar for student achievement.

DOCUSHARE

 What is Docushare?

Xerox Docushare is the service that MCSD has chosen for digital document storage. All collections and documents loaded using Docushare can be accessed through a special web site. Access privileges are password protected, based on the type of document and the need of the person accessing. Various formats are supported by Docushare, e.g., MS WORD, EXCEL, PPT, pdf files, etc.

How can I find Docushare?

What are some of the ways I can utilize this resource?

  GENERAL GUIDELINES

District collections are being loaded onto Docushare for you to browse. Documents are organized in three top-level collections:

Authorized Users – A collection of documents protected by password. These include district policies and other resources that are not available to the general   public . In order to access these documents, you will need a login and a password. Contact your library staff person to get this information.

The username and password on Docushare are case sensitive, so be sure you type them in lower case. Only district employees have access to passwords.

District School Building Collections  – A collection of documents organized by building that support the activities of each building. Documents in this collection are available to anyone with access to the WWW. If you would like to have documents loaded in this area to support your courses, please see your library staff member and they will work with you to develop a plan customized to your specific needs.

New Collections and Documents

At the present time, individual teachers for the most part, are unable to develop collections or add documents to the system without the help of the library/media specialist. The librarians and staff are currently working with administrative teams throughout the district to develop the digital collections that support district and building operations.

General Access Procedure

In order to access documents, you can either use the Docushare icon on your application launcher, or go directly to a collection if you know the URL. If you want to browse the collections, you will want   to start from the Docushare icon on your application launcher and then login by clicking on the “login” at the top of your screen.

To get an overview of the contents, just click contents at the top of the page.

If you are accessing Docushare from home, or another remote location, the URL is:

http://doc.mariemontschools.org

As new collections are developed, you will occasionally receive an email on the listserv with the URL for that specific collection. At the present time, collections of special interest include:

Courses of Study : This collection currently includes the district Math AND language Arts courses of study.

Proficiency Testing: A collection of web links with information about all of Ohio’s proficiency tests.

Policies: Currently contains two collections. One is the complete district policy manual and the other is a set of district policies for emergency situations.

Teacher Toolbox   Be sure to check out this guidebook. You can link to it from all library homepages as well as from this link”
