HOW THE BOOK WAS USED:
District administrators and teacher leaders agreed that the teacher evaluation program was inadequate and frankly out of alignment with the goals of the district in 2002. The university consultant working with the district used this book to open up the discussions around the qualities of effective teachers. Teachers on the task group then went back to the buildings and used the teacher skills assessment checklists to reflect on their performance and to set targets for professional growth.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY:
This book has a solid research base, is easy to read, and will serve as a good resource for those who need "a vehicle and language" to focus the discussion of effective teachers.
